As one of the most attractive natural areas of Argentina, the Valdes Peninsula is a fantastic tourist destination. The wonderful Valdes Peninsula is located on the Atlantic Coast, belonging to Chubut Province. The total area of the peninsula is about 3,600 km². The whole area is an important protected area of the country, making part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites since 1999.

The unique Valdes Peninsula is famous for its fauna, giving home to such animals like elephant seals, fur seals, sea lions, and Magellanic Penguins, not to mention the Orcas and Southern right whales which live in the surrounding waters. The nearest town to the peninsula is Puerto Madryn. Tourists who would like to visit the area, first get to this town. Location

The breathtaking Valdes Peninsula is located in the eastern part of the country, along the Atlantic Coast, belonging administratively to the province of Chubut. It is also one of the most attractive destinations of the province. If you want to get to the peninsula, the best way to do it is by getting to Puerto Madryn first. It is the closest town to the peninsula.

If you travel from Buenos Aires, you can opt for any of the numerous means of transportation. For instance there are long distance bus connections with the capital city. Do you want to get to Puerto Madryn more quickly? You can also opt for the airplane, as the town does have an airport. There are direct flights from the capital city to Puerto Madryn.

As I already mentioned it, the main highlights of the Valdes Peninsula are the numerous species of animals living along the coastline and in the waters. The animals you can admire here are the following: penguins, sea lions, fur seals, elephant seals, maras, Southern right whales and Orcas.

The peninsula is considered to be one of the best whale-watching spots of Argentina, attracting large number of tourists every year. Admiring these animals in their natural habitat is with no doubt one of the greatest experiences of life.

What to do at the Valdes Peninsula? It is easy…Go for a whale-watching tour! There are organized numerous such tours starting from the town of Puerto Piramides. This is with no doubt one of the most attractive activities here. Other activities are also available, including fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, mountain biking and even sandboarding.

As the Valdes Peninsula is a popular tourist destination, it is obvious that there are numerous hotels, restaurants and other tourist facilities here. It is good to make a booking in advance, as the hotels get extremely busy during summertime and on the weekends. There are numerous options to choose of, including camping areas, guesthouses and even mid-range hotels. There are numerous good restaurants in Puerto Piramides, with the best ones specialized in seafood.
