The wonderful province of Salta is one of the most unique and most breathtaking landscapes of Argentina. It lies on the northern part of the country and is very popular among tourists. Visitors usually arrive to its capital city which wears the same name. From the city of Salta tourists have the occasion to visit the surrounding area full of astonishing natural wonders, including the Calchaquí Valleys, Cachi, the salt flats of Salta and three national parks, including the Baritú National Park, the El Rey National Park and the Los Cardones National Park. The geological color of Salta is unique and very attractive. You should visit some sights of the province, too.

The Calchaquí Valleys

The Calchaquí Valleys form a unique region of north-western Argentina. The area is famous for its contrast of colors and its unique ecosystems ranging from subtropical forests to mountain deserts. The valleys include a large number of highlights like the Cachi Mountain, the Los Cardones National Park and several vineyards, especially the ones nearby the town of Cafayate.

Cachi

Cachi is the name of both a mountain and a small town in Salta. The mountain of Cachi lies in the northern part of the Calchaquí Valleys. The area is famous among climbers, as the sky is almost always clear and the temperature is generally mild. Cachi is also famous for being home to one of the highest vineyards of the world – the Bodegas Colome. Cachi is a truly remarkable and unique tourist destination of the entire country.

The salt flats of Salta

The fantastic and unique Salinas Grandes or salt flats of Salta make a unique and recognizable tourist attraction of Argentina. A paved road leads across the immense salt flats, so that the visitors can have an excellent view over the area. If you visit this region, I suggest you to make some great photos and purchase salt artisan objects. You can also admire here the salt-water pools created by the mining works.

Salta’s national parks

As I already mentioned it, there are three fantastic national parks in the province: the Baritú National Park, the El Rey National Park and the Los Cardones National Park. In these protected areas you can admire a large variety of flora and fauna of tropical rainforests. At about a 5.000 m height, the virgin nature will surely amaze you.

Among the species of animals living in these areas are: the Andean condor, toucans, tangarás, vicugnas, rheas, woodpeckers, tapirs, jaguars and numerous species of birds. The national parks of Salta are with no doubt must-see attractions for nature-lovers.
