The most important highlight of the region is the breathtaking Los Glaciares National Park situated only about 80 km away from EL Calafate. The beautiful Perito Glacier is the highlight of the park. Things to do

The most important trips from El Calafate are the ones to the Perito Moreno Glacier. You can opt for a bus tour or you can make part of trips for ice walking. Hitchhiking is also an option, but the trip may be a little exhausting.

There are also organized 4×4 excursions which take you up into the mountainous area which surround the town. Arriving up to the mountains, you will have stunning views over the beautiful Lake Argentino, and even of the top of Fitz Roy on a clear day. During winter season tourists can rent skates to practice ice skating on the ice of the fantastic Lake Argentino.

There are numerous options of accommodation in El Calafate. There are hotels, hostels and camping sites in and around El Calafate. Some of the most famous hotels are the following: America del Sur, Mirador del Lago, AMSA Camping, Hostel de las Manos, Cerro Cristal Hotel and so on.


As for the restaurants of the town, there is a large variety to choose of. The main restaurants are fast food stalls and grill restaurants. Want to eat some delicious empanadas? Go to the Pizzeria La Lechuza. La Tablita is also a famous restaurant.
